Do you want to become a Digital Nomad? Teaching English Online is an increasingly popular option for prospective Digital Nomads. I’ve been teaching English online with Italki since October 2017 after completing a 120 hour TEFL with TEFL.org.uk, in this video I share my experience and give you 10 Top Tips for teaching English online!

A common misconception regarding online teaching is that the only way you can do it is by working for Chinese companies such as DadaABC, VIPKID, or 51Talk, teaching Chinese children on Beijing time.

However, teaching adults with Italki is a great way of becoming an Online English Teacher if you do not feel comfortable teaching children.

You can jump to each point at the following time indexes –

1 – Introduction Video 01:08
2 – Be clear on your profile & description 2:49
3 – Penetration Pricing 03:56
4 – NO textbooks 06:05
5 – Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail 07:35
6 – No extensive plans 09:23
7 – Trial Lessons 10:41
8 – Adaptability 13:51
9 – Use your Personality 14:45
10 – Communication 16:33

  1. What's your experience with online teaching? Have you tried Italki? If you have any questions, ask away in the comments!

AND a special bonus goes to anyone who can count how many times I say 'ya know' and 'etcetera' in this video LOL

  2. Hi David. I clicked on your Italki link to apply for a job, but it only asked me to register first. Once I did that, I clicked on the email they sent me, but it directed me for me to pick a teacher. I could not find a link where to apply. Please help and thanks for your help.

  3. very informative! a few questions I have are do you get enough clients right away when starting or do you have to build up a clientele?
how many hours a week do you work? do you get to choose how much or how little you work? do you ever do lessons at a cafe or public places?

  4. This is only the second of your videos that I have watched. I find them very helpful and inspiring. Thank you for the time you have put into making these, and especially thank you for your candid approach!

  5. What's it like to teach your first ever lesson? Is it scary/awkward? Taking the plunge seems nerve wracking to me as someone who doesn't have experience behind them.

  6. Thank you sooooo much for this great video – I found it extremely useful. I am about to take the step into online teaching after many years as a TEFL Teacher in SE Asia. I am currently reviewing various options. After watching this video I feel Italki will suit my teaching style. I really enjoy creating free flowing lessons which are tailored to individual students requirements.

  7. Great video!! Very helpful. I currently teach for a CZ English school but would love to try something like this. Is this app allowing non native speakers with TEFL to teach students? Thanks for answer, hun :*
